Lowering coolant freezing temperature
Hi guys,
I read a couple of treads explaining how to flush and replace coolant on a 3800 engine. I don't want to flush and replace the coolant because it's been done a year ago (about 12,000 km) and I don't think it needs to be done again. I just want to lower freezing temperature because it's only around -25°C. I did not find a procedure to do that.
But based on what I read on flushing and replacing, here is how I think I should do it:
With engine cold, release radiator pressure cap.
Open radiator drain valve.
Allow a quart of coolant to drain.
Close radiator drain valve.
Add a quart of pure coolant of same type (I have pink Dex).
Put back radiator pressure cap.
Start the engine and let it idle for 5 minutes.
Check coolant freezing temperature.
Repeat procedure if necessary.
Does that procedure make sense ?
Thanks guys

Yes just drain some of the suff that is.in there and put in some strait coolant run it for a bit, drive around and retest to see where it is at,
I find it odd your only good to -25°c(-13°f) especially being in canada, and becuase generally when mixed 50/50 it is usually good to like -37°c(-35°f)

Maybe the guy who changed the coolant a year ago mixed it wrong.
Thank you Justin
