Default Kind of weird quirk

Has anyone had issues with your older generation Monte Carlo in that you'll warm it up in the morning, it will start fine, but if you throw it in reverse the car dies?

This used to happen with my first Monte Carlo (also a '74) as well, and just started with the '74 I have now.

Warmed up the car forever this morning, and every time I'd throw it in reverse it would die, eventually would be fine for drive, though.

I have to check out some things with the exhaust, but it is kind of weird. And then I remembered having a similar problem with the car I had in high school.

Sounds like a carb problem. Idle tooLow or something..Reverse is not going to make it die.

This^^^

I set up my carbed Monte a bit different for winter. I let it run a bit rich, and turn up the idle a bit. I could start the thing on the first crank, and it would idle with no choke. It was very very nice.

Kind of Weird 4-Sure, but it's great that a few of our member's posted a suggestion. Placing your Monte in reverse must require more power then putting it in2 the drive position thus straining your engine to drop the RPM & cease fuel in2 your carb...I really don't know, but it's possible (maybe), but I did fill in some empty space on the MCF..

I hope you find a solution to this weird problem Good Luck!

i'm going to look into this, thanks. was fine today, but i am figuring out that after the mechanic letting it sit for two months straight, i have to work some kinks out.

super annoying!

What kind of carb does it have? The adjustabilty of an aftermarket holley is nice, the power is nice too
