Does the option code AOU in the options list (in trunk lid)mean that my car (99 monte carlo LS) is equipped for keyless remote? I bought the car used but it has no remote.ALSO,it has an aftermarket starter(Viper model 125XV)that is supposed to unlock doors,but no features of that autostart works either.When these aftermarket units are installed is the factory keyless feature necessarily disabled?

 

Callyour localChevy dealer and give them your VIN. They can tell you in a few minutes if it came with that option. You can find remote key fobs online for around $20 that you can program yourself.

if you do get a key fob from the internet, all you need to do to program it is stand within 6 ft and hold down the lock/unlock buttons at the same time for 10 seconds. Some people will tell you that you need to detach some cable or ground in the trunk but you don't need to. I have a '99 and bought both key fobs of the internet.
