well my 05 wont start i put the key in an the chimes come on, i can not turn the key to start the car

 

Try putting your key in and jiggling it back and forth and see if that works. It could just be stuck. My '05 Malibu has done that before and it has the same ignition set up.

 

mine did this also the lock smith took a hammer and lightly tapped it while turning the key. hasent done it since.

 

tried that did not work 2weeks ago it did the same thing and idid work then

 

Do what Mickey said the locksmith did and try to tap your key with a hammer....If no resolve take it to a dealer (if you still have a warranty) and get the ignition cylinder replaced.

 

no more warranty, is the ignition cylinder the ignition switch?

 

the cyc. is wha tyour key fits in to. the part with the tumblers. the issue your having is in that part of it. get some light oil or lock lube and oil the lock then tap LIGHTLY so you dont break anythign and turn it at the same time. not driving the key threw the lock just tapping it

 

try a new key also. one that is not wore out. so it pushes those pins in as far as they need to be

 

got it thanks for the info what parts if any should i replace to prevent this from happening again

 

you will need the part with the tumblers in it or the cyclinder. but that might mean new keys etc...
