For your car the HPTuners is worth it. And no, they are definitely NOT EASY to just jump right into.
The handheld tuners are easy to operate, but very limited in what they can do.

if you're going to supercharge then hptuners will be your best bet, it's what i have and it's not something you pick up in a day, there's a lot of research involved and you have to understand or learn how all the sensors affect how the car runs. it's not as simple to supercharge a monte as it is to supercharge a prix. pcm swaps will not work, the security system likes to be a turd, and after that you have to make sure your fans work right
the tune i made for my swap took me 6 hours straight in tinytuner modifying a .bin version of my stock file going through all 693 tables and variables, then i opened it in hptuners to finish it in hpt format, but it worked like a charm and everything works the way it is supposed to

If your'e gonna boost, do it before you tune. And like said above, you can send off your pcm to overkill. If all you're doing is putting on a supercharger, youd probably benefit most just having somone else do it for you. Save you some money.

Tuning is not easy. Tuning a highly modified car isn't easy.
What works in the summer, won't work in the fall sometimes too. It can be a pain.
If you do a crazy build (anything different than basic bolt-ons) I would really take the time to learn how to tune yourself.
