Default Hood rattles; latch a bit loose. Any good fixes?

Lately the hood's been rattling somewhat, esp. at interstate speeds. Now I even hear it rattling down around 20 mph. Does this happen as a result of the hood being slammed too hard? I've never known if there's a "best" way to close a car hood, like maybe let it fall from halfway down, or actually lower it gently and "shove" it closed. There seems to be about a half-inch or so of play at the front when it's latched. Shouldn't it be totally tight?

Anyway, the latch otherwise seems to be in order, and the interior hood release always works.

Well, in the spirit of "what the heck", I got a couple of those little self-sticking dome-shaped rubber bumper pads, like the ones you put behind picture frames on the wall, and put one on the top of each of the two short black rubber posts that are next to the black chassis braces under the hood before I took a trip on the interstate yesterday.

I didn't seriously expect it to work, but I think it actually did the trick! The hood hardly ever rattled, no matter what the speed was.
We'll see if the hood stays quiet from now on...

Felt pads the ones you put under furniture might also do good. Apply crazy glue to them first to withstand the weather and its elements.
