Help with transmission please !
So I have another post below about my 2005 monte carlo ls 3.4 l having jerky shifting. It doesn't always do it. Which is very weird to me. Everytime I need to show someone it shifts just fine. But clunks hard a lot of the time. Im not afraid of doing work myself as I love a challenge. If it's the solenoids in the tranny. What ones should I change ? I may try that first because I refuse to get a shop to do it for 800-1500 dollars when it would cost me only like $100 for the solenoids. If you guys dont think its the solenoids. What else could I try ? The tranny fluid is okay. I tried some tranny system cleaner. I tried fuel injector cleaner. Nothing has helped. The shop i took it to did tell me the motor or tranny mounts are pretty bad. Which could explain a clunk when I first take off. But not between gears.
The solenoids need to be replaced. They build up pressure in the lines which enables them to shift and when they stick the pressure builds up higher than normal which is what is causing them to "slam" into gear. The problem is not a consistent one, it comes and goes, like I said I got over 100 000 kms on mine before it finally failed on me, and some days it would do it and some days it wouldn't. I personally would replace them, cause if your in there anyways, you may as well do them all.
The tranny mounts, you may as well also change while you have the car up and everything apart, although I think you only need to take the side cover off to get to the solenoids, but still if your elbow deep in the job, you may as well do it all. ZZp has new poly mounts that are supposed to be great, and fairly inexpensive

thanks a lot. I just don't want to mess it up either. Dropping the rack and what not just seems to be asking for me to mess it up.
