Default Help Please, CV Drive Axles

1999 Monte Carlo, 3.1. I hear a "roaring" noise coming from the front somewhere, starting at about 15mph and getting louder as the speed increases. It is not reallya grinding sound. It is not the engine because when I shift into neutral and coast or rev the engine, the roar continues at the ground speed. How can I be sure it is the CV Drive Axle Bearings?? Trying to help my grandaughter. Thanks, Joe

Default RE: Help Please, CV Drive Axles

Got it fixed. Put front endon jacks and put it in gear and got out and listened. Noise was coming from left front and that side was runing slower that the right side. I realize the differential can cause some of this. Anyway, I replaced the wheel bearing and also the CV Shaft on that side since there was 186,000 miles on it. Everything fine now (until next time). Thanks for looking. Joe
