Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor replacement question...
Hey all: Check engine light was thrown today and diagnostic said it was P0446, or replace fuel tank pressure sensor. if so, is this is a costly repair and does the tank have to be dropped?
And is it imperative to have it replaced ASAP?
2003 Monte Carlo SS.
Thanks,
Jeff

The FP sensor is above the fuel pump. There is an access panel in gen. 6's you can remove to get to it.
Peel back the carpet in the truck where it is split in the middle next to the back seat and remove the seven nuts holding down the access cover to expose the hoses and electrical connectors going into the fuel pump.
I think the sensor runs about $60. Check
RockAuto.com.
The car might run a little funny with a bad sensor. It won't pass an emissions test.
If you Don't want to do it yourself it's about an hour job for a shop.

If you're at at all handy with tools you can do it. It's literally plug and play. Remove the safety clip on the electrical connector, pry apart the electrical connectors disconnect the plug-in electrical harness where it connects into the sensor. Pry apart the clips that hold the sensor into the top of the fuel pump and pull out the sensor. Apply a little di-electric grease to the rubber seal on the new sensor and reverse the process to install the new sensor. Just be careful to not over stretch the wires, there's not much play.
