I'm sure this is easier than I am making it but my front 12V plug stopped working. I am an electrician so I know a thing or two about electricity but I am not a small person and I shudder at the thought of getting in behind that console piece.

I checked the voltage inside the plug. It is zero. I checked the fuse on the drivers side panel and it is fine.

Nothing else seems to be dead.

Is there something common that may have happened that could get me started? Is the console somewhat easy to remove? Anything goes!

 

The sockets themselves burn out....
Ive replced mine on my truck twice. (use it for phone chargeing as well as my garmin a lot)

Id replace it! If the fuse is good and the wire going to it is.
Id be pretty positive thats the problem...

Ive replaced the cigarette lighter on my Monte with ease....
so the console comes apart fairly easy....

pull one from the junkyard. Do you have a cigarette lighter in one? they can short them out also...

 

Try checking the passenger side fuse panel. Look for a fuse labeled 'C/LTR'.

 

I would check all the wiring and the socket. I have seen the tabs inside them get flattened out and not work or short out the circuit. Also the plug is plastic and could have been overheated. as for the counsel It comes out really easy. there are a few screws inside under a rubber mat and one in the front. then i think the bezel around the shifer just pops off. I Haven't had mine apart in a long time but i was pretty simple. I will look for a picture to help.

+1, there are 2 fuse panels inside the car. The fuse is in the pass side for the front acc outlet. Fuse can be blown and the rear socket will still work (separate circuit).

I knew there was a panel on the apssenger side but when I found CigLtr 10A on the drivers side, I assumed that was it.

I ended up ripping out the top center console, pulling the wires out, testing testing testing.... everything looked good except the positive. With everything ripped apart, I went over the the other side of the car and checked the fuse box there and found the blown 15A. Sh*t! C*ck! A$$!!! Well, next time, I'll do the easy parts first.

Glad its fixed. I just wanted to add for any other members that have this problem. My front socket quit working yesterday and all the fuses were good. If I moved the wires inside the the connector on the back it would come on. I unplugged the plastic plug and bent the tabs with a small screwdriver. Problem solved.

 

Good thread, I needed this information. I hope a fuse is all I need. I miss my front outlet to charge my phone with. Hehe
