Engine light
 
does anybody know how to check whats the problem when engine light on?
what kind of computer or device you used to check it?

Go to autozone or any other auto store and ask them to check your codes for you. Its free. The use an obd2 scanner.

A 1985 Monte is not going to work with an ODB-II scan tool (unless the tool is compatible with pre-ODB-II systems).

I believe on GM cars from the 80's, you can jumper two pins together on the computer terminal under the dash. After that, turn the key to the on position and the light will flash the code.
I believe the Haynes and Chiltons books will tell you how to retrieve the codes and what flash codes translate to.

Hahaha sorry. I assumed 5th or 6th gen. I forgot the pre obd2 systems.
