Default Engine Knock?? No Way.

So I've noticed my car knocks a bit... Not like a rod knock either, I notice it doesn't do it on the bottom end of the motor but up on top. It only seems to do it at idle too. No CEL on at all, what do you think?

It's not that loud though, when the hood is closed you can't even hear it unless you are in the car and even then it's very faint

This might sound silly, but how does the serpentine belt sound? Also, does the sound go away if the engine is running without the s-belt on?

I've never ever ran my car without the s-belt on. I just replaced my power steering pump today, I thought it was coming from the supercharger at first, it does sound like it's coming from the s-belt area

Try taking a piece of tubing like fuel line and have it maybe 2 feet long. Hold one end to your ear and take the other end and start placing it around different places on the engine. It is like a doctor's stethoscope and maybe you can pin point where the knock is coming from. Just be careful not to stick the hose into any moving parts!

Is it high pitch or low pitch? Could be a valvetrain tick. Maybe even a cam shaft.

Does it change with revving the engine. Could be a sticky lifter.

When I rev the engine I can't hear it anymore, that's the odd part.
