Default EGR valve cleaning before replacing

Hi again, posted Friday about loss of power at 30 mph & O'Reilly pulled the code related to EGR valve. So I'm going to try and clean it since I can't afford a new one yet. Any suggestions on what to do or not. I have some throttle body cleaner & was told to pull part, spray it real good & let it sit then blow it out with air. I'm a chick and never worked on a car, any tips would be great
Thanks,
Evie

Hi Evie.
First, what year and model is your car? Which engine?

OK. That is a common problem on the 3400. Even more common is blockage of the port from the egr that passes into the throttle body.

Give me a minute to find it and I will post a link to a video tutorial.

OK. Found this video:

This is for the 3100 engine which is very similar. Note the carbon deposits in the throttle body. The throttle body has to be removed to get to this portand remove the carbon you scrape off. Some mechanics just push a wire through the port from the egr side, but that sends the deposits into the engine. Not good! best to vacuum them out. I will send another video on cleaning the egr pintle, but that port is a more common problem and should be cleaned out.

Here's one cleaning the egr valve itself:

Omg, this just got way over my head. I appreciate the video, gonna go back outside and see if I can unhook throttle body. I'm absolutely clueless. Going to see about that pintle thingy.
Thank you so much!

Here's one about cleaning the egr passage w/o removing the throttle body if you want to take that chance:

Here's one on how to remove and reinstall the throttle body on a 3400 monte:

Please keep us posted.

I'm impressed you went as far as you did. Many guys would be intimidated as well, so don't feel bad. Not something you just want to jump into. I still think you can do it with a little more time and patience. Study the videos. Feel free to PM me if needed.
Thanks for following up and good luck.
