Default Coolant level sensor????

It's been a while since I've been on here, had a bunch of other things to do and not whole lot of time.
Plus I've been gettingmy 89 Ford F150 going.

Any way, I've been having problems with my coolant level sensor not unlike some of the post that I have read.
Started with the sesnor going off and then my temp. guage quiting.
Took it in had the rad flushed, new temp. guage sensor installed and away we went.
Two weeks later the low coolant level sensor kicked off again.
Took it back an found that the coolant sensor had gone bad, so had it replaced.
Sure enough two weeks later here we go again.
Before I go replacing it again ( as I have noted that at least one other member did this and all seems okay after),does any one know the test method for the sensor and the wire harness??

Any other ideas just in case it turns out that the sensor is not the issue. And yes I have lots of fluid and not leaks that I can find.

2001 Monte SS 3.8L
Thanks in advance
Andy

you probably have an air pocket in your cooling system that is kicking the sensor on...and once that happens, sensors on these cars have a tendency to go bad. I just went through the same thing. Check for leaks, it's a possibility that when they flushed the system and refilled it, they didn't bleed it.

Hi Andy,
Good to see you back on the forum, and you have a
great excuse for being tardy (Work'in on your FORD : ) LOL
I would check your wiring around the reservoir to
see if there is any corrosion or lose wires.
Also, you can try disconnecting your battery & resetting
your computer in case it's not reading the new sensor
correctly.
Hopefully another Member may have more information
on your problem & post a suggestion/solution.
Let us know when you find the problem.
We hope you return soon to your Monte Carlo Family : )
Wish you good Luck, from `Space

That's a good thought 'Space, and I agree with thecorrosion because those sensors are known for that, but a coolant level sensor isn't a resettable sensor. It either shows low coolant or it doesn't. It doesn't store a code like a service engine light does. That's why you reset SES (or CEL) lights, to clear the code. Like I said, I think he's got an air pocket because the likelihood of 3 or 4 sensors being bad is small.

You might be right about the Ford making Monte sick , the Fords leaking trany fluid right now........although I know that just a bad seal around the transmission pan.

Anyway, So I am 99% sure that it is an air bubble. Here's some interesting side effects.

When the Monte is cold the Coolant level sensor stays off.
Once it warms up, and I stop and then restart the Monte, sure enough the light comes on.
After the light comes on if I am driving around town it mostly stays on.
If the light is on and I do about 45 min of Highway driving 90% of the time the light goes out.
The last thing I can think of is that it does not seem to be pulling coolant from the overflow reservoir.[/ul]
This seems to indicate an air bubble....What does everyone else think?
Is there away to bleed of the air bubble with out having to run it into the shop, and get gouged once again??

I would first check the rad. cap make sure it works like it should
Then i would top off the rad. and add coolant to the overflow tank

then i would start the car and turn the heater on full HOT and let it run. Watch the temp gauge on the dash
when it gets to max. operating temp. The thermostat will open and you should be able to see the temp drop down
Also the cooling fans should come on too.

I know some cars have a air screw to bleed air out of the cooling sys. I will have to look at the 05 Monte and see if it does.
If it does bleed the air out of the system at that point. Most of the time if you have trapped air in the system the engine
will run HOt

Thought of the rad cap,so I replaced it .. no change.
Lots of fluid in the overflow and I can't get any more fluid in.

As far as the temp. It is actually running right were it always does and has.
And yes I do see the thermostat open and the fans come on when it get hot.

I'd forgotten about the air bleed screw, I know I have one on the oldFord. I'll have to take a look at the Monte.
Thanks for the thoughts Mrrench.
