Default cold crank

Has anyone else heard the ticking at cold start up. Sounds like valves tapping? I'm taking a guess that this is lifter noise? It goes away after a few minutes, but its nerve racking

Mine does not tap, but I have heard of it happening to others and supposedly this is normal for the 3400's and less with the 3800's. And I think your right on the $$$ with it being the lifters.

I'll have to remember where I saw this info; there was a chemical that you can pour into the crank case right before an oil change that will get rid of it. I'll see what I can hunt down for you.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, I was on the road all day...

Forgot to add, what kind of oil are you using?

I've used Mobil 1 from day one and have had no problems...

I havent gotten the first oil change yet. I only have 1001 miles on it. Its done this, since I noticed it, from around 340 miles. As I talk to you now at 7:50am at work, when I cranked up this morning to warm it up, it ticked for quite a few minutes. One of the guys here at the dealership says ...come on everyone...together now.....THATS NORMAL!!![sm=bs.gif]

If I were you, I would change it now. Try Mobil 1 or Royal Purple.

I have used Royal Purple in past vehicles and really could not tell much of a difference between that and Mobil 1 if any.

Well we do sell Mobil 1 here and I stock it on my shelf and I have used it my 91 Camaro before. I think I will put Mobil in it today. Thanks T.[sm=goodidea.gif]
