Default Check engine light?

once this light comes on and you resolve the problem, should it cut off by itself or is their something i can do manually to reset it and see if it comes back on? it had cut off prior to me changing the sensor but now its back on pulling the same code.

You'll need to clear it with some type of scan tool, or a scan gauge, like the aeroforce interceptor

It depends on who you get to help you read it. Some will and some wont. Just be kewl with them and tell them that you cleaned the MAF sensor and it hasn't turned off yet and if they can reset it to see if it comes back again.

Thats what worked for me.

Autozone policy is to read the error code, but not to clear it.
To clear or reset the error code yourself, you just have to disconnect the negative or positive battery cable from the battery. This will clear the error code.

Disconnecting the battery isn't going to reset the light on anything obd2. If you disconnect the battery the code will still be stored in history and may even stay on. The only way to truly clear it is with a scan tool

I use a cheap scan tool from Harbor Freight. I got it a few years ago. Here's one for $60 which is similar.

It does everything I need it to do, scan/read codes and delete codes. You can get better, more expensive scan tools, but I personally don't have the need for one. I'm not that good of a mechanic.:p

I've got a cheap ($30) ELM 327. It works exactly like it's supposed to. The only downside for most people is that you need a computer to hook it up to. I love mine.
