The headunit comes apart real easy.

I have a stock multi-cd unit that refuses to load any disc. I got another for next to nothing, but it was a single CD player and it would need to be programmed.

I tried swapping the disc transports inside, I disengaged the 6 CD transport and installed the singe disc one in it's place, and that didn't work. But it was easy to take apart and put back together. Just be careful with the ribbon connectors.
