Car stalling and shutting off
Yesterday I drove to my uncle's which is about 20 miles. Turned off the car, got back in later and it wouldn't start. It would turn and almost start, but then crap out. Finally after about half an hour of waiting it started again and my check engine light went off. It has been on for a long time. I made it home fine last night. I try starting the car again and it will start for a minute or so, but the rpm's fluctuate from 400 to 1000. It sputters and dies out, also the check engine light came back on. My uncle had recently done well almost a full tune-up. He couldn't reach two of the plugs and is going to do them today. We also bought a fuel filter and he's going to replace it. I don't understand how it just started stalling, but then ran fine and stalled again. It's like it's clogged up somewhere. It's a 2005 SC Monte Carlo. Any ideas? |
Next time this happens, unplug the MAF sensor and try to start the car. They are a pretty common problem for hot restarts.

i have the same issue and because i had the car for so long i just assumed maf swapped it for dealer item no help, replaced iac no help no vac leaks. tuned up 4 years ago maybe drove 5 or 6k miles, shes been sitting in the garage for a while. no CELS?! took it to 2 mechanics and they couldnt figure it out this usually happens when stopped for a few seconds on my aeroforce scan gauge i noticed af ratio is bouncing from 13.60-16-30 . thinking i wash the k&n filter and recharge it? also do you no if theres a post with what values i should be seeing on my scan gauge? i will be posting a thread about values for the gauge for diagnosis. |
Did you check for a leaking fuel pressure regulator? That will flood the engine and cause it to die, especially at idle.
