With the pictures it's hard to tell what switch it's for. But it's referred to a ported vacuum switch. More information such as year, engine, what the vacuum lines are going to would help get a better answer. Sometimes found on the thermostat housing other times in the intake manifold.

It's some sort of vacuum ported temperature switch that's installed into your thermostat housing/water outlet. Your service manual will have much more info about that. If you don't have a service manual, get one.

By the way, what's up with the bare wires on the other sensor next to it and the (WTF??) solder job on the idle stop solenoid body?
