the 3.1 SFI engine is the same for the engine's entire run from what i know. the earlyer 3.1 is very similar ( ran from the mid 80's till about '93-4) with a differant intake system, and the later 3400 engine ( found in '00-up montes) is basicly a bigger, suped up 3.1.

the 3.1 used in 5th gen monte's is the same engine regardless of year, '95-'99. IDK what a bypass pully is though? you tryin to bypass the A/C compressor, or something like that?

also i checked the a/c compressor parts numbers on autozone.com and they both are different parts numbers from the 95-96

autozone sell a bypass pulley for the 96 but they dont sell one for the 95

im just curious on this one, buy why are ya bypassing the A/C compressor?

if ya wanna check to see if the '96 bypass pully would work on the 3.1 in your '95, ( no reason it should not, but better to check anyways ) i would compair a picture of the pully to see if the bolt locations are the same as the A/C compressor, and find out if the pully itself is the same diameter as the one on your stock compressor. again, they should line up.

personally, if your gonna bypass the A/c compressor i would just look into running a shorter belt. or just leave it be, lol. mine the A/C has not worked scince i bought it, i just dont wanna deal with the hassle of removing the a/c crap and its not harming anything having the compressor there, the clutch on it does not engage so its not robbing any real HP being there...

- 1-A AUTO:-This Bypass pulley bolts on to your engine in the same location as your malfunctioning Air Conditioning compresssor, allowing you to use your original serpentine belt. A malfunctioning compressor can be noisy and cause premature damage to your serpentine belt. This is a cost effective alternative to costly repairs to your Air conditioning system.

Features:

Built to strict quality control standards
Includes bracket, highest quality bearing, and correct size pulley
Fits perfectly in the place of an A/C compressor
Uses original compressor bolts
Allows you to use your original serpentine belt

try a shot or 3 of PB blaster on the bearings of the pully. that usually shuts mine up for a while
