Default Brake help

Have a 99. Last week the brake light in the dash came one. Only does every now and then. Yesterday when applying the brakes, it started making a tapping/popping noise coming from the right rear it seems like. Could it be the parking brake trying to grab? Ive read to check the fluid and pads, any other things that could cause it?

i would take the calipers and rotors off and inspect everything...

although what you describe sounds like an abs fail. Disable your traction control and see if symptoms persist. will tell you if its mechanical or abs related.

I'd be curious whens the last time you did a complete overhaul of the brake system.... Since its a 1999... I'd guess its probably way past due.... How many miles on it also comes into play as maintenance is key to keeping these Monte Carlos in tip top shape!

As mentioned previously,
I would do a complete inspection of each and every part. I think you maybe shocked what ya might find.... Could be a froze caliper, bad pads or both! Maybe a broken caliper Bracket. Eitherway I would do a complete tear down just to be sure to correct the problem.

With faulty brakes you put yourself and others at risk of being seriously injured!

Well it is the rear shoes are due to be replaced, front pads are good. I'm think its possible a cracked drum, it does it at interval such as a rock in the tread of a tire.
