Default Bad Rack&Pinion and Oil Pan gasket @ 19K

How does a rack&pinion which is leaking on the driver's side steering gear go bad leaking to the point that the engine cradle is wet with ps fluid?

Engine oil pan has a front leak as well. This car ('06 Monte Carlo) is well maintained. Just took it to the dealer for Cooling System service (dexcool flush/fill) and have the rear stabilizer bushing replaced.

I have an afternarket extended warranty which is covering the two issues.

I noticed the PS line leaking at 5500 miles in '07 and that was repaired before I ever got the recall noticed. The selling dealer had overfilled the reservior to top, but I had used aturkey baster to remove the excess.

I saw the rack leaking myself during an oil change last week and I was taking the car to the dealer (not the selling dealer because they went defunct) for cooling system service.

I have a 2006 LS 3.5 with 19,600 miles- bought new in July '06. Everything except the cooling system service is covered with no deductible (thank goodness).

what is wrong with the cooling system? I have a powertrain warranty only, which I'm not sure what will or will not be covered, oh well. do you ever drive your car! 19600 is nothing, I thought I was pretty low with 53000 on my 3.9 06.

I know the cooling system calls for 5 yrs/150K, but I am paranoid with Dexcool after having 3 intake gasket failures on 2 3.1 engines that I previously owned.

I drive the car just 16 miles a day 5 days a week for work. It is babied and no dents or scratches. The inside still looks new. I wish it was an SS though.

I'm also very nervous on the dexcool crap, so let me know how it goes, thanks.

sounds good about the low miles etc, wish mine looked as good! please keep us/me posted with the monte issues. I'm not a big 24_48 fan but you have been here way longer than me and also have had a couple past montes/3.1 engines, so your good in my book, thanks Eric for everything, later..

i believe it.

i still have to take mine to the dealer. i noticed a leak under the brake resivoir. over the axle boots and valve cover. i think. looks like oil. ive also had to add about a cup a month or so of dex-cool, cause its leaking.

they supposibly pressure tested the system twice and cant find anything wrong. "its normal" according to them. thats why im so hesitant to take it in for the oil thing, casue there going to tell me it was my problem.

check you transcooler line under the airbox for leaks. its a fairly commen problem, that gm overlooked.

anyways GL

also my front end feels "loose", but my struts are fine. but thats to the manufacture specifcations too. lol got to love it.
