Default 99 Monte Carlo ABS & Brake Warning Light

Hi Gang

99Monte Carlo. ABS light came on and then about 2 hrs later the red brake warning light (located to the left of the abs LIGHT) came on. Any thoughts? Will the red warning light come on if the rear shoes are worn? Is the red light only to indicate if the Emergency brake is on? Any help is appreciated. Also will a specific code be set for the ABS or will it be a genaric code?

Thanks

Sounds like the speed sensors are going.. There are a couple on the Monte.. I had to replace both the left and right front on my 97 I once had.

Yeah I'll agree with draxxis. My mother has a '94 Cutlass Supreme S and when her ABS module went out and both lights came on...but on the Monte's I would say that it is probably a wheel speed sensor.

Red light comes on because of
1. if the parking brake is applied
2. if the brake fliud level is low because of a leak in the system. Be it a rear brake cylinder leaking to the front calipers or brake lines.

Yellow abs
Could be on because of a wheel sensor issue to the abs control module

You can also check the switch for the emerancy brake pedal as well (for the red light)
