2007 Monte Carlo SS
My son took delivery about 2 weeks ago. Last weekend he noticed oil dripping from the engine. Took it to Chevy Saturday and they "think" it's the rear main seal. They have to remove the transmission tofix it. The service manager stated there was a TSB on this problem. There are afew TSBs on engine leaks but noreal detail. Anyone else experience this problem and does the fix work? It's amazing to me that a new car should have this problem.
dose this surprise me? nope not one bit.
there are a few hundred reasons on why this could be happening.
IF there are already tsp's out on it then it surprises me that they don't have some one fixing the inventory or at least a way to to check this.
I would have a fit if mine would have leaked when i got it home.
but then they came out with a recall on it for the coolant deal not to long after i had mine also. it surprised me that i had heard it was a common issue with the years before mine. so why by the time my car came in to production did they not have it fixed is way beyond me.
hope that they can get it all fixed up for him. And congrats to the new owner. welcome.

I've heard about that TSB as well, but my 2006 hasn't had the issue - and it's 1 year & 2 mos. old with 23,000+ miles on it.
here's is the TSB with all of the details:

My 06 MonteSS was leaking oil also. The dealer replaced the oil pan, saying that it was a pourous casting. So far so good, but the original leak didn't show until a few months of driving. I'll have to keep an eye on it, and if it leaks again, go back and bring up the TSB, which I didn't know about till now. We'll see.

You drive a lot!

Thanks for the help guys. He got the car back today. After telling him about the TSB and that they would need to remove the trans to fix the problem, they discovered that the oil pan bolts were under-torqued. They figured this out after having the car for 3 days! That should have been the first thing they checked. No wonder GM struggles - the cost of the car rental they provided plus whatever labor they'll bill back to GM will probably eat up most of the profit they made on the car. Hopefully that was the problem and he will enjoy the car. It's the first new car he's purchased and coincidentally, it's the same dealership I bought my first new car in 1968, a 1969 Chevelle SS396 4sp. Once again, thanks for the info.

LOL... yeah... 65-70 miles a day to/from work (round-trip), then running around on weekends taking my 8 and 10 year old to their basketball games, and then there's the ol' "I just want to drive it"

Well, let's see... besides my good salary and full medical/dental/401K benefits, I get 14 paid company holidays, 2 paid floating holidays, 2 paid personal days, 5 paid sick days, and 4 weeks paid vacation... yeah, I think it's worth it...
