2006 ss burning oil
Hi there, I bought a 2006 monte carlo ss with 21000 miles about 3 months ago. Been a good car so far, it now has 24000 miles on it, so I am taking it in for a oil change at the gm dealer i bought it from. anyways i have had to add 1 quart of oil twice, in less then 3000 miles. after having it for about 3 weeks, the low oil light came on, i added a quart, and it where it was supposed to be. then a few weeks ago, the same. i park it in my garage always, with a concrete floor, and there are no spots anywhere. just wondering if anybody has had any other problems like this. btw i am going to have the dealer check it out , because it only has 24000 miles, and its gm certified. thanks

So you are going through about 1 quart every 1500 miles!?!?! Yea that is WAY to much, especially for a car with 24000 miles on it. That thing should be tight, and really not burning much of anything. MAYBE half a quart every 3000 miles.
My 06 with the 3.5L burns pretty much no oil at all and I have 119,000 miles on mine.

yeah, its going to the dealership on monday, they are going to have me come back every 500 miles, and they are going to keep checking the oil. i have a 2004 silverado with 94000 miles of beating, never had to add any oil, and completely original truck except front brakes and spark plugs, built chevy tough

Ehh, honestly, its nothing to worry about. If you want to ask someone, check with the guys at the LS1tech forum, there are some that have had some bad oil burning and others who havent. I personally burn about a quart a month. It has something to do with how hard you drive it, along with the PCV valve I believe, it releases pressure from inside the engine up into the intake to burn the excess gas that hasnt been burnt yet, so if oil gets in it, it will be burnt. GM has a certain guidline on how much oil is being burnt in the warranty. I believe its something crazy, like if it burns more than 1 quart every 1 thousand miles. But like I said, check at the ls1 forum, I have learnt a lot over there with these LS4 engines.

I understand that the LSx engines allow some oil to spill out if you are driving it hard, but you also don't want to have a seal that isn't properly set, or a faulty PCV valve and not do anything about it
Especially if it's under warranty.

well i took it to the dealer today, once again the tire sensors arent working, they said there was a service bullentin for this, so i have to take it back another day to get it fixed. when they changed the oil, it was 1.5 quarts low. thats 3.5 quarts in 3000 miles. they said it defiently isnt normal, they said underneath its spotless. so they gave me a sheet of paper from gm, it shows the specs on whats expected to be burned bythe motor, and they documented the date, mileage, and how many quarts they put in, and i have to come back in 750 miles, and they will check it again. after that if its in specs, nothing they can do. if its out of specs, then they are going to have to do something. the car only has 24000 miles, and it has a warranty. but at least my first oil change was for free.

I feel ya... I bought my 2006 SS in 2009 with 36,000 miles and by the first oil change I was two quarts low. I made the dealer note it and I was told to keep an eye on it.
So now I have 72,000 miles on her and I know I burn about a quart every 3000 miles.
One dealer said "oh that's normal for this engine"
I personally think that is crap....
I think the rings are stack (rings on the pistons have all lined up where the space in each ring are letting oil seap)
I don't beat or drive this car hard....never have.
Sounds like rings werent install properly when engine was built.
