I got a postcard in the mail today saying that my car had an open recall on it. It just gave a 4 digit number; didn't specify what the recall was for. Will they fix this for free even if my car is no longer under warranty?

recalls are free as long as you do them in the recommended time frame.

I called the Chevy dealer that was listed on the postcard yesterday to ask about this recall, and it looks like it's something I had done about 2 years ago at my own expense. They said that I might be able to get reimbursed by Chevy for the amount I paid for the repair if I bring in or fax my repair invoice to them.

Good deal. I too have already had this done. Stupid of Chevy to only put a 4 digit number on the card. Had mine done under warranty though, but you should be able to get reimbursed.
