Default 2006 LT 3.9 Engine Hot A/C Off

I've been hiving this happen intermittently. The temp gauge drops to zero and the Engine Hot A/C off message shows in the DIC. This has happened two-three times and typically stays that way for a week or so.

I took it to the dealer and they updated the computer and was told I had a "bad engine coolant temperature sensor and sticky thermostat". My extended warranty had run out and didn't have the money to have them fix it, so I thought I would give it a go on my own.

I just replaced the ECT sensor and still get "Engine Hot A/C off" even on cold start. Is there a different temperature sensor somewhere? I found nothing on google or in Rock auto's catalog

Did anyone else fix this themselves or not via a computer flash? (dealer said they flashed it already)

Hi `Joe,
Sorry to read that you are having a few problems with
your Monte Carlo : (
Was your computer flash b-4 you did your work ?
I believe there is only one temp sensor, but please
check back to see what our expert tech member's post when
they view your post.
The computer on your 2006 Chevy Monte Carlo generates and stores trouble codes related to the vehicle's emissions control system. These codes are stored on the computer until you run a diagnostic test and retrieve them. Once retrieved, you can fix your Monte, but the codes will remain on the computer. To get rid of them, you'll need to clear the codes using a special tool called an OBD (onboard diagnostic) scan tool. These tools can be found in most auto parts stores in the electronics section.

Click above link on reset.
It's for a 06 Impala, but it's the same procedure.
Hope it helps

i would say you might have a wire leading to the gage shorting out or a wire from the temp sensor is broken you may need to hunt it down as in a wire break some where along the line

Thank you for the replies.

The computer flash was indeed before I changed out the ECT sensor - and I had assumed I was being fed a line of BS by the dealer, because when I took it in, I was seeing the error message, and when I got it back (having declined the work), it was working.

Thanks for the suggestion about checking the wiring - that seems like it will be a tedious task, but as it's getting chillier, I will miss my remote start if I don't track it down.

reading chevytalk.org it may be just from cold weather, yet i'm about to try to add more coolant as its level seems low and that could be the reason why the thermostat is at zero. the error is real annoying , just hoping dont have to replace anything

Confirmed. Had an error "Engine Hot, A/C Off" on a 06 Carlo and thermostat was morbid due to really low coolant/antifreeze level. Today is the coldest day thus far this season in GA, pretty sure it's relevant. As soon as added coolant to sufficiency ,thermostat normalized and the stupid message is gone ! Good luck , i hope it's not yall thermostats if that's what the dealers say
