Default 2003 Monte Carlo 3400 Engine Whistles

I blew a head gasket in my Monte and I tore the motor down and replaced the head gaskets. I now have the motor together and running but it is making a whistling sound real loud. I removed the serpentine belt and started the car again so that I could eliminate pulleys and such. The loud whistling sound is still there just as loud. Any suggestions? Another problem I am having is when I connect the negative battery cable, the car starts. The key was not n the on position and I couldn't shut it down with the key.

The whistling sounds like it is an air leak, are you getting any codes?

The battery starting the car when the negative cable hooked up, sounds like you have something wired in backwards from tearing the motor down. I've not heard of this happening before. I would check the wires to the starter first and foremost, it could also be the solenoid in the starter itself has shorted out creating an arc, or live connection that the current passes through once hooked up to the battery, usually they do the opposite and break the connection which is why people used to put a screwdriver across them in lawnmowers and such to create the flow of current, not very safe but it does do the trick, and I wouldn't recommend anyone doing this.

Just doing some quick research on your problem and it could be that your ignition switch is broken and currently in the start position, even though you have it to the off position, you may be turning it with the key, but in fact it is not actually doing what it is supposed to do. I would also suggest trying a different ignition switch just in case
