I have a 2001 ss. it starts fine but when i drive it for a while and it gets warm it will spike to about 3000 rpms and drop down and die. Sometimes the car will just idle and die.... Im thinking it is a problem with the Mass airflow sensor.... need some help or some ideas before i buy a part that wont fix the problem... Thanks

 

This is the same problem it sounds like that my brother had in his 3800 grand prix. I just cleaned his MAf sensor with some cleaner from an auto parts store and it fixed the problem.

 

what type of cleaner do you recommend for this????

 

CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner is the stuff that i used and it worked fine for me.

Well where to start!!!! i went and bought the CRC mass airflow cleaner. Got home opened the hood and realized.. i dont have any security bits to take of the mass airflow sensor.... so instead i took the entire throttle body off and cleaned the sensor and the throttle body. After re-assembly it worked like a champ!!!! Now the monte is back to life and working great! Thanks 2000_BLACK_SS for all your help!

Another [Monte] life saved. Way to go! I wish I would have known about this MAF cleaner before I replaced the MAF on my Monte....$194 later... ) lol.
