Rockers will help you, but you do need a tune to get the maximum benefit of using them. I believe you're going to get 1.84 or 1.9 rockers? I've considered it, but I think I'd rather do an aftermarket cam instead. More gains, more power.

I think that putting higher ratio rockers wouldn't damage your bottom end, these 3800 bottom ends last for a LONG time. There are guys with fairly heavily modded 3800s with 250k miles, on the stock, original bottom end.

I did my HV3 / ER Rockers / Plog and tune with probably... 155K on my car.

It was nice to replace those gaskets and get some more power.

can you be more specific on what you did, and to clarify i have a 3400 not the 3800. So i shouldnt be too worried about the bottom end being to wore out to handle the fresh parts up top?

Well, i took the dive, wiring harness, alternator, intermediate pipe, all coolant and vacuum hoses, coil pack, upper manifold and fuel rail removed. next a couple brackets, and the intake and exhaust. i think ive decided not to replace the lifters, or rockers, but im still considering a larger throttle body, and possibly better injectors? ideas? Also do both engine mounts have to be removed or just the passengers one? i cant tell if the drivers side is going to be an issue.

Sorry, didn't know you had the 3.4

Upgrade wise you don't have much, but a trip to 60degreev6.com could help you out

Well all thats left is to remove the heads now. Bottom end looks great from what i see... Does anyone happen to know the approx shear torque the head bolts can withstand? Im trying to remove them but they are being stubborn, it took 125 ft lbs to loosen a couple of them, and the other ones arent budging.

Urg for future reference, it takes 115 ft lbs to crack a 15mm craftsman socket, and 135 ft lbs to break a 15mm KD socket. After breaking two sockets on one same head bolt i finally got a impact socket and broke them free. Yey, lol so now all thats left is to get the heads machined and tossing it all back together. Oh side note the cylinder walls still have the machined hone marks on the sides, and there is no wear lip whatsoever.

I'm assuming you weren't using a breaker bar to get the head bolts loose? That's what I used, and it made it 1000x easier.

it wouldnt matter, he was using chinese sockets. they're all made by the same company and stamped differently.

on stubborn bolts, try letting them soak in pb blast for a day at least. wipe dry and use some better tools. lol

some guy told me that he could buy 5 sets for the price of a great set. i asked him why he would want to buy 5 sets?

quality sockets are hot forged and machined, about 15 processes in all.

chinese sockets are made buy thousands, cold forged, using low qaulity steel, stamped, and chromed. foriegners get paid 10 dollars a week so there familys can live in a box with a community bathroom. would you expect them to care about what they do for a living. i rest my case.

Craftsman and kd are both made in usa, so not sure what qualifies as quality tools... I was using a 2' breaker bar and all bolts had been soaked in pb blaster for 2 days.
