Default 2000 MC SS Transmission issue

I was wondering if anyone else out there has had an issue with their transmission. My monte has 75,000 miles on it and I have been told I need my transmission rebuilt.

Seems the car will not go into overdrive. Instead I get a high pitched sound that almost hurts my ears and the RPM's go way up, also seems like the trans is slipping. when I drop it down to 3rd gear the whine goes away.

Anyone experience this problem and do I need to rebuild my transmission.

Any comments are appreciated, hopefully befroe I spend up to $1,500.00.

thanks guys......

Default RE: 2000 MC SS Transmission issue

I had the same issue with my 2001 SS at 77K. It was the OD hub;-GM stopped heat treating the shaft so the teeth were totally eaten. I only replaced the shaft at the time, that was 3 years ago.But you should weigh the cost difference between the two. More than likely I'll have to rebuild my tranny at somepoint. Hopefully later than sooner.

And yes, you're right about the whine noise - I had the same.

Good Luck & find a reputable tranny shop.
