Default 1985 Monte Carlo 4.3 v6 intermittent noise in throttle body

I am missing the tube that goes to the engine from the air filter housing. It rusted off from where it's connected and im not sure whatever happened to it. It seems without that, intermittently there a sound almost sound like a "brrrrrrrrrrrr" that turns on and off it's kind of annoying when riding without the radio on. Any suggestions as to what it is?

Well of course, I took my Chiltons manual out of my bag and it is at home!!! LOL
When I get home, I will look it up and tell you what it is called.

Ok I failed to read in the title that you had a 4.3 v6. I saw 85 and instantly thought 305.
So I take it you are not still using the old huge Thermostatic air cleaner system?
That is what I was thinking of because it actually has a motor on it. It was designed to warm the air entering the carburetor when underhood temperatures were low and to maintain a controlled air temperature into the carburetor at all times
Here is some info on what I was talking about but it says it is also used on throttle body injected vehicles. Hmmmm I learned something new. Thought they were only used on carbureted engines. Click-->Thermostatic Air Cleaner ? Auto Repair Help
The part I thought you may have been missing is called a heat stove on the carbureted engine. It goes from the snorkel to the exhaust manifold.

Thanks P343. That's exactly what it is. The part that the hose plugged into on the shroud mounted on the exhaust manifold, rusted away many years ago lol. And that hose which was probably aluminum is long gone too. So it looks like I have some parts to search. Mine is fuel injected too, but I don't recall any electronics plugging into it so it may have the wax method that article talked about. I will take a look at it tomorrow while I am tackling the front end replacement.

Thanks again!

Please take pics so you can post them when you get to full member status in a few days. I wuld like to see that. All of my emissions stuff is long gone and I honestly, until today, did not know they ran those on fuel injected cars.
Good luck with the front end replacement. When you are done you can guide me thru doing mine so taken step by step pics!!! :-(
