03 monte running rough
I have an 03 SS 3.8, It runs up to 4k rpm then acts like its hitting the rev limiter and wont shift until I slowdown a little "I believe thats where the rev limiter is for park and neutral could there be something with shift linkage telling computer its in park-neutral?"Also the engine light flashes when it does this but stops after a minute
Car has 114,000 on the odometer and has had nothing but brakes, oil and BCM changed, I changed the sparkplugs yesterday because I had the right ones in the garage"thanx to my 98 monte Z34" but it made no difference, im going to do the wires tomorrow, can anyone tell me the procedure for checking the coil packs?
Any help is appreciated And im sure people might need more info so ask away

Is worth a try as it is a common problem on these and the high mileage of this monte, even if its not the problem it could use replacing as i plan on keeping the car.
Im off to find a nice cat-back and headers, anyone got a suggestion or site?

just found this elsewhere "Usually when the cat goes bad, there is a marked decrease in vehicle performance and sometimes a rattling coming from the converter under load." I just drove it with window down and radio off and heard the rattle "more like loud tapping or knocking", I noticed a co2 sensor before the converter, is there one in or after the converter? will it affect the computer if I bypass catalytic converter for testing or until I get the new exhaust as my wife is still driving this daily

You were right Justin Knight! cleaned out the guts from CC, also ran a pipe down the middle of it and it runs better then I ever remember.
link was very useful ChibiBlackSheep as I have no emissions here and will likely do a off road exhaust soon. If i knew what i was looking for i could have found that forum and not wasted everyone's time here
The clicking I was hearing was pre-ignition in the intake which was easy for my mechanic "My Cousin" to diagnose when he burnt his arm touching the airbox after we ran it hard for 2-3 minutes, parts store gave me the wrong gasket for the cat to resonator pipe so is loud right now "went sans gasket as it wouldn't bolt up cause the one i got the bolt holes were too close together" but ran great, Ill go in the morning for the right gasket.
