I hope this is in the right section. I am new here and signed up to help my dad out. He has a 2002 Monte SS with about 50k on it and he is having troubles. Almost everytime he starts the car the overhead display, AC button, Recirc button, and the blower fan do not work. Sometimes it takes a min, and sometimes he said he can drive for about a mile before everything starts working again. Once in a while everything works like normal from the start. Could this be a relay? All the fuses have been pulled and checked for connection. Thanks.

If it is doing it at start up, sometimes, and the headlights, trip computer, etc flicker, it's the body control module. EVERYTHING in these cars are controlled by it. When you turn on your lights, the switch tells the computer to turn on the lights! I had to replace mine in my '01 SS LE. Pretty sure I'm right on this.

I've been having that problem for a coupleof years on my 02 LS. I'm also sure its the BCM. I just decided to live with it. Doesn't happen that often now.

Heck, when mine does that the ac compressor will also turn on (even though no air is coming out) and the cruise control will stay on or flicker on/off.

 

It is located roughly behind the emergecy brake. You can pick them up at junkyards and ebay.

 

It's under the carpet under the drivers seat.
