Watkins glen meet 4/17/16
 

if anyone in interested Opening Weekend at Watkins Glen is coming up and of course we are going!

Sunday April 17th, Meeting at the gas station just off the I-90 exit 42 for 9AM. Then the parking lot at the Advance Auto parts in Watkins Glen for 10AM, then on to the track.

Everyone is welcome to join us. It costs $25 for 3 paced laps of the track. Average speed is about 60MPH, But we hit some higher speeds, but it is still a lot of fun to get the cars out and take them on the track. After the laps, we hang out at the track checking out cars, then it's off to the Burger King in town for lunch and everyone goes their own way after that.

I head a yearly event with the Smart Car Of America club and we take our micro cars around the track during the Finger Lakes Wine Festival weekend.

Would love to do it in the Monte - I'm in!

I have been looking for an excuse to bring the Monte there. What a difference that will be. :rotfl: 3 more cylinders, 2.5L bigger, and another metric ton!

What else in my collection should I toss around that track? :cool:

There really isnt much in Watkins Glen its actually quite a small town so burger king will have to do lol!

That really is a beautiful area & lots of great places for photo shoots (WoW) I go everywhere on the
net and eat PB&J as I look @ all the great restaurant menu's that are out there to be consumed (LOL)

I think I'll have to come up for this I've never been to any sort of event like this. It'll be good to get away from college for once. Any sort of things I should know prior to the event?

Nothing special really, you sign a waiver and pay $25 for 3 "paced" laps.

As it is just one week away I wanted to confirm that everyone is still meeting up. Also you did mention being there by 9, and I am the type of person to be early to everything so is there a best place to park there I don't believe I have ever been to that gas station but it is only 16 minutes away :)

As far as i know everyone is going. You won't see all of us at that gas station as some come from north and west while others come from the south and just meet right in Watkins Glen.

There is a large parking area on the back side of the gas station. See you next week!!!

I will unfortunately be one of those people that washes his car at 7am. :P

Coming from Utica, so I'll do my best to meet at the gas station but will likely be at the Advance Auto closet to 10. Making a family trip out of it!

It was a fun day and glad ya had fun!!! We'll see ya at the nationals!!!

Let me share my thanks as well. Had a blast, and the Montes on the track just felt right! Never did the long track before either, so that was just icing on the cake. The parents loved it, and the Monte faired much better than expected! All it can claim is about 100 fewer bugs left in NY. Super cool experience today. :)
