My idea/input on starting a meet n' greet
first i recomend you open a poll to figure out where everyone is from and what is the strongest population of MC owners reside, try a poll like this
your location
Chicago/downtown
North side chicago near O'hare
West side of chicago
South side of chicago
West suburbs
Northwest suburbs
north west Indiana
next best place to orginze a meet n' greet is somewhere simple that everyone will agree on. so once you found out where everyone lives at where is the strongest crowd is at and who is actually is willing to meet up then decide on where to go
something local and not too fancy but has to be LOCAL where its no more than 30 minutes away from everyone.
a decent location like B-Dubs/ Hooters/ etc. where food is good and cheap, that way the first or second meeting is mainly getting to meet one another and form a small local club,
slowly as we migrate more people in we can organize cruises like a sunrise cruise or midnight cruise or cruises to local event like car shows and drive in movie theaters.
and finally a good idea is to organize these local meeting in a new side of town every week in a new location, a poll of where to post the next meeting should me posted right after the first meet n' greet, and once agreed on what side of town the meeting should be at (this should be decided in 3 days or less) once the location is figured out a poll of where to eat/lounge should be posted of near by places to the choosen city/town.
just my idea and it worked before with previous sites like V6P.net and acurazine.com

Those 65 people were about 12 times the number of people that had previously gathered ... at Volo Auto Museum, for a drive out to Galena IL, and other various events since ~2004.
Attendance for the MidSummer Gathering in 2009 dropped to ~25 or so ... and dropped even more in 2010. I included pics of the 2010 gathering in the first post as well:

In this area ... with people all over northern IL ... finding a place that is < 30 minutes from EVERYONE is not possible.
Thus, given the falling attendance, I scrapped the MidSummer Gathering idea ... and decided to try meet'n'greets ... in various locations around the area ... to give more people a chance to be closer to a gathering.

I saw the NYMCC in action in person last August (Spiedie Fest; Binghamton NY). They also have awesome gatherings in NJ, MD & eastern PA.

Funny thing is ... after the drop in attendance in 2010, I had initially scrapped the idea of trying to get people together at all. But, a few people kept asking me when I was going to announce plans for 2011 ... and, despite my resistance, I gave in ... and decided to try it again ... especially after I witnessed local groups in other states be so successful in having people attend and gather regularly. People tend to enjoy the events ... once they are there. It's getting them to show up that is the issue ... that ... and getting people to TALK about them afterward.
Of the 65 that came in 2008, 99% of them told me personally that they had a wonderful time and hoped I would keep doing those gatherings. Yet, not too many people chatted about it on the boards ... and attendance dropped considerably in 2009.

yeah its too bad i didnt know about these meet ups earlier as well ... because i would have loved to come out too ... but i didnt have the monte then, so it would have kind defeated the purpose :p
oh well ... mark me down for wanting to try again, and no im not expecting a reminded email Knight, that isnt fair for you to have to babysit everyone to make sure they will arrive ...
if i still have the monte next year, im willing to drive at least an hour in any direction to meet up ... shooot, ive already met a few guys from the ls1tech boards and did taillights for one of them ...
oh well ... mark me down for wanting to try again, and no im not expecting a reminded email Knight, that isnt fair for you to have to babysit everyone to make sure they will arrive ...

ill be in elgin, dundee, algonquin area. my old stomping grounds from back in the day, and why in the hell would u come to this corn filled state lol nothing here except the monument and the black hills. lol but deff look me up when u head this way man
