A lot of people here like the Hawk ceramic pads.

Linked here

They work great and have minimal dust. Plus a ceramic pad is best.

They're the second most expensive brake pads that can fit your car.

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...S_929647619___

Obviously more expensive, I don't know if you would need a "severe-duty" brake pad. But you can use this as an argument.

ChibiBlackSheep 05-12-2009 12:37 PM

Do they sell any types of ceramic pads?

RickAKATed10 05-12-2009 01:19 PM

Those Thermo-Quiets are ceramic, I believe.

ChibiBlackSheep 05-12-2009 01:23 PM

These Friction Master brakes say ceramic in the details... the thermo-quiets all I can find are semi-metallic. You think if they were ceramic they would mention that... it's a big selling point.

dominic 05-12-2009 01:27 PM

went to advance auto parts web site.put in ceramic brakes.the only thing that came up was weaver gold brakes. thank you for the advice.the link that you showed those are the replacement brake pads .dont need a severe duty brake pad as you mentioned.
going to put these replacment wanger thermo quiet on.they were listed at $56 for 2002 monte.one time free replacement .found my receipt today put the bedinx on in 7/2006.

Sounds good! I hope those work out for you.

JuniorCar 05-13-2009 06:18 AM

I sell ThermoQuiet. They are not bad, but not what I sell as the best. They are ceramic if the part prefix is PD, semi-metallic if the prefix is MX. Both are available (6th gens use pd699 or mx699). Ceramic = quiet & less dust, semi-metallic = better stopping power.

High dollar doesn't mean they are the best. For $10 more you could've gotten some Hawk HPS pads. IMO they are the best, longest lasting, and cleanest brake pads out there. I replace mine last fall (the rotors were wore out) at 115,000 miles, 4 years and 2 cars later. (I swapped them out from my '01 SS LE when I bought this Intimidator SS). They still had about 25-30% life left, front and back. Needless to say, that's what I put back on.
Here is a link showing the price, $70 for the front pads and $61 for the back pads, free shipping:

^ see, someone recommending hawk lol

RickAKATed10 05-13-2009 09:47 AM

It is a good recommendation. I had them on my Stratus R/T coupe with Powerslot rotors. It stopped on a dime!

Well she was sitting pretty low, but not low enough to not make it over a dime... Geez!

Thank you for leaving! Close the door on the way out.

went to take the old brakes off today.
could not get the calipers bolts off.they put some anti lock glue on the threads.
will no budge.this is on both sides.we tried a breaker bar.size 14 deep well 6 point and a 12 point.so i think the one blot head might be stripped.so i called a buddy up he will do in tommorow.less than 2/32 on brakes.when i had it done last in 06 they must of used a air gun to put them back on.how diffuclt is it to get a new caliper bolts?

JuniorCar 05-13-2009 06:58 PM

Caliper pins are easy to find. Probably gonna be a bitch to get out. Its good that they used anti seize (anti lock is the opposite of glue) but sil-glyde is prefered as it can take the heat better.

I don't know why people worry so much about the quality of their brakes. They need to stop the car, and in that regard I have never had any fail (except really old rusty lines or hydraulics - I actually had many brake failure). You'll like the Wagners, but make sure you change rotors too (always)!

I'll take exception to that quote. If I can stop even 10 feet shorter because of high quality brake pads, or even a couple, and maybe a couple more because of the dual piston calipers I run, and a couple more from quality tires, when that kid runs into the road, or the bike swerves and falls, or someone runs the stop sign, I'm GLAD that I spent the extra $10 on quality brake pads that might save that kids life. Tires are what gives you control between your car and the road. I don't chince on tires either. The more powerful engine will only get you in trouble. Quality tires and brakes are what saves lives.

By the way, I've had ALL of the above situations happen to me in my 40 years of driving. Never mind the deer, dogs, pigs, horses, cows, sheep, turkey, and countless other animals that have crossed the road in front of me.

Quoted for the truth! Good post.

went and had the brakes done
had to get new rotors.
75 for ceramic brake pads.top of the line.this i a lifetime warranty on the pads and rotors.ending up taking the old brakes back and got a set of wagner.thermo quiet.
i will just put them in the garage.to wanted a set of back brakes.they will only honor the warranty .only the front pads.spent a little more cash than i wanted to.this way i do not have to worry about these brakes again.also great stopping power.still thenew ceramic brakes have to be seated to the new rotors.
what is the best way to seat the pads to the new rotors? 02 monte ss
