Default Top of Black Dash - Heatwave - bad results

Okay, my Monte was out in the East Coast heatwave the past couple of days and now has got some issues along the top of the dash, near where the black plastic vent of window defroster meets the soft padded vinyl (closest edge to driver). It has erupted and warped some and will not seat properly. It is black of course and so it really absorbed the heat.

It seems that the tolerances of the joint/seam are pretty tight and now I can't get the vinyl to stop the bacon effect. I have tried to push it back down, and it pops back up.

Is there an adhesive on the bottom of this top piece, it sounds like there is, but without pulling out the entire piece I can't tell for sure.

Any ideas on how to get this back to its original shape and position?

When I bought my car brand new, the dash was warped in the center right on the edge. The dealer had to replace it with a new dashboard. The new one looks awesome and sits kind of above the plastic piece that has the defroster cut out.

Suggestion, get yourself a windshield sun shade and put that up when the sun is shining. It will protect not only your dash, but your whole interior.

You're so right. I just bought a walmart sun shield that said it fits Monte Carlo's 2000+, but it was a POS - and its gonna be returned. So instead I bought a custom cut UV shield from Carcovers for $55 shipped.

Yeah, I'm not looking forward to going to get it replaced if thats what it going to take. At least the section involved does not lose any of the Tony Stewart badging.

also, here's the damage:

That is EXACTLY where mine was warped, and like I said it was like that just from sitting on the lot at the dealer.

I actually got my sunshade at Wal-Mart, I got one of the think bubble ones with the reflective stuff on both sides. The one I got actually fits real well, and definitely helps. You will not regret spending the money on a good sun shade though.

I honestly have no idea. I can not imagine its cheap at all, probably $800+ to completely replace, including labor...

But all my invoice says is "warranty repair" since the car was brand new, literally had less than 100 miles on it.

Well my car is under a 12 month/12,000 mile bumper to bumper so that should cover it.

I hope.

Hello all,

This year, my 'O6 SS warped in the center above the HVAC vents. I have the Major Guard Protection Plan. When I called about the dash, I was told it was not covered under this warranty. So much for the extra $$ we spent on the plan!!!! I was told it's about $700.00 to replace it!
