Default Thinking ahead- radio code retrieval

The battery is 5 years old in our 04 SS Supercharged and I know sometime in the next few years it will need replacing. Is there anyway to retrieve the code from the factory radio? I don't have a manual and I'd like to know what the code is before its locked if and when the battery dies. I have access to a tech II if I need it, but can you do it with out it?

You'll need the tech 2 to retrieve it.

Maybe it wasn't armed(?) There's a way to disarm it so that it doesn't lock but I'd have to get the book out and don't have time right now.

How would one know if it wasn't armed? I have the flashing red light when my car is turned off on the radio.

Thank you. I'll hook up the tech 2.

As far as being armed or not, I'm not sure. My old 99 Bonneville SLE had theft lock on the factory radio, but it was disarmed because I removed it and put it back in and it never asked for a code and worked fine
