not real sure on this.
1. can he even get the chip to replace the one in the car now?
2. where is the other chip located?
3. if you cna get to it and take it out and your good with Electronics then i would say yes he could do this.

but this also comes down to the point of if it came this way it might be a diffrence in teh stereo all togeather as one has a chip hard wired in to it in stead of the other one.
So you going to have to figure out if you cna get it in your hands first and then locate it in the deck he has now. if you manage to do all the above you already ahve answerd your question.

i guess the next question is what is the diffrence between them? I have thought of activateing mine in my deck to but have no clue what is on one verses the other. price etc...

XM is not a chip, but a tuner box located on top of your right rear wheel well, under the carpet. I do not believe you can add Sirrius that will run thru the deck like XM. Also the factory antenna is not compatable with Sirrius either. I have both XM and Sirrius in my car, but new and witha Pioneer head unit. Factory radio is in the trunk, rear of the piggy-backed tuner units. 3 antenna's including the Onstar. I have XM active for 2 more months, then I'll switch over. I'm told it has better sound quality, plus better rock. We'll see soon.

Thanks for the Question 2Fast! I'm actually the friend he was asking for, just have been too lazy and forgetful to ask myself. Anyhow, after some research i've found this http://reviews.cnet.com/SIRIUS_SIR_G...&tag=uolst Which i THINK is exactly what i'm looking for. Just swap out the XM Tuner for Sirius and be on my way. There's also another one on CNET i haven't checked out yet, but will. If ANYONE has any advice(for or against this) please let me know. I don't want to mess up ANY PART of my car, but this seems like a logical move and seems easy enough too. I'm also definitely going to Call Sirius for their opinion and for info on how they can switch my old account to this possible tuner(there's probably a number that comes with it). Any advice is sincerely appreciated! Thanks in Advance

TOM

MICKEY, Before i got the Monte, i had Sirius in my old car for a little over 1 and a half years. I had about a MONTH free of XM when i got this car with it factory installed. There really wasn't a noticeable difference in Music to me. The thing bringing me back to Sirius is HOWARD STERN, who i love and the show is so much better without restrictions. And i'm pretty sure that the price for either is $12.95/month, so that is even too. Hope that helps..

Let me know if that Sirius unit works. I have a 2004 SS with AM/FM/CD and Crutchfield says as long as I have a BAND button on my radio it SHOULD work. Mine has the band button and I want SIRIUS because they have the contract with the NFL. I'd be interested to know if your's hooked up OK and how difficult it was to install.

You guys might want to wait untill the Sirius/XM merger get figgured out. I subscribe to Sirius and they just emailed me to say that they are merging with XM. They did say that your subscription for 2007 is still good and the unit should be the same for 07, but in 08 when they actually merge all of the stations... who knows. Might want to research how this is going to pan out before spending any money.

Here's direct from the Sirius website. Notice how they say you don't need a new radio to get SIRIUS programming, don't say anything about getting XM programming. I kept most of it out (for your viewing pleasure of course) but if you're curious go to the Sirius website, at the bottom the fine print specifically says these "forward looking" statements could end up being totally false and they won't be held legally responsible! (in the roundabout legal-ese way of course)
