Default steering wheel controls 98' monte carlo

i'm installing an eclipse avn5435 unit in my 98' monte carlo ls this weekend. this head unit has an optional harness for wiring voltage type steering remote controls. it is my understanding though that the factory headunit has some type of CAN-bus or similar comms to the factory unit to do this control. is there an adapter that i could tap into the buss and bring out to the harness for this unit? does anyone have any experience with this?

You need an adapter made by PAC. I just installed the same one in my brother's car not long ago. It's not hard to do.

I use the PAC unit with my steering wheel controls on my camaro, and it works just like the factory. Check the PAC website, since the integration box works for most CD-players but not all of them.
