Did they put in the new Head Unit using the right harnesses, and you are still using your stock amp to power your stock speakers? If so, you could just hook up the new speakers to the same factory amp using the same wiring that's already there.
Of course, the factory amp and headunit cut out bass as you up the volume in order to protect the stock speakers, so you're not going to get the full potential out the the news speakers. But nevertheless, it could be done. Sounds liek they may be trying to ream you... worst thing about places like CC and BB.

They put the head unit in with a new harnesses so that my "dings and dongs" still work. That is the one they put it. I want to replace the speakers and have good bass. But to do that it sounds like its going to be a trip.
Yea, to get "good" bass out of regular speakers, you'd probably need to remove the stock amp, and run 6 1/2's and 6x9's off a good 4 channel amp (or 2 2 channel amps...).
Another possibility would be to get some decent speakers and just hook them into the factory amp, then install a sub or 2 and an amp. You could even keep all your stock speakers if your JUST wanting more bass and just add some boom in the trunk.

Here is a good way to go, INVEST in a high quality deck that has 50watts by four and that has alot of ways to tune your stereo through the deck and your good to go with only four speakers, I can crank my stereo and I get a clean sound and the bass from my 6x9's does give me a back massage with the right song and no amp. my stereo sounds like I got 10" subs and I DON'T.
kenwood excelon 50 watts by 4 deck
6 1/2 2 way infinity refrence speakers in doors
6x9 3 way infinity refrence speakers in the rear
Infinity refrence is great for the price not expensive and they sound great and the bass is really good with a stron stereo deck.

Try this, get the speakers and install them and crank it and see what happens, if they cut out just go back and have the shop disconnect your car amp and run the speaker from the deck if they cut off,
My local circuit city and Best Buy are cool. I like best buy's install prices better and the guy there is awesome and did everything right for me.
I had my speakers installed first at circuit city and then had my deck and satellite installed at best buy and I bought my harness from crutchfield and my deck and speakers ordered from onlincarstereo at wholesale price and free shipping, great way to go.

That is the deck I just got.
Now are you running those speakers through your stock AMP?
otherwise i have to get the whole car rewired [:@]
sounds like a plan if that is it

a deck will make a huge difference. Try to get one with around 20 watts RMS x 4. Here is what my car sounds like with stock speakers.

FYI, nearly all decks nowadays are 50x4 so don't think you have to spend a ton of money to get one. Secondly, this "rewiring" they're talking about is simply running speaker wire from your deck to each speaker. So, as for your question, no, you don't need to rewire your car in order to install and play aftermarket speakers in your car. However, simply replacing them and running them off the factory amp will result in a noticeable decrease in volume because the factory speakers are 2ohm while your aftermarket speakers will most likely be 4ohm. The 4ohm speakers is double the resistance of the factory 2 ohm speakers so the amp's output will be cut in half.
I have my system like this and it sounds fine, I just have to turn the volume up higher in order to get the output I want. When I install my SQ system I'll be running all new speaker wire and taking the factory amp out of the loop. I would suggest you do the same, it will sound twice as nice!
