Speaker Replacement Advice Needed
#26
That is true, in my 2007 Monte Carlo. The speakers are 4 ohms. Not all after-market speakers are 4 ohms. But basically, if you are retaining the original amplifier system, any speaker 4-16 ohms will work, without damage. If the two speakers are different ohms, the result will be one being louder. This is due to the fact that maximum power transfer happens when the speaker is properly matched (ohms-wise) to the amplifier's designed output.
If you parallel two 4-ohm speakers, that gives you a 2-ohm load to the amplifier. In that case, you run the risk of damaging the amplifier. Alway try to match to the original. And, certainly try to keep from putting too much load on the amplifier, (smaller ohms...), less you kill it..... That 2-ohm load will not produce more watts from the amplifier!!!! But, it could produce problems.....

I ordered some 6 and 1/2 door speakers from Crutchfield. The speaker did not fit with or without the adapter bracket they sent. I was expecting an easy installation, but ended up returning the speakers. I am going to head to the dealer and just use a factory replacement. I really had high hopes for installing new aftermarkets, but could not get it to work.
