That was one of the problems I ran into.

 

Quick question that I hope is not too off topic-I'm looking to be able to manually select a gear, not "up to" that gear as you can stock. Will a ratchet shifter allow you to do this? If not, is there anything and what is it called? (I've always called that a "bump shifter" but google doesn't seem to know what I'm talking about...)

 

Can't manually select the gear on these cars. It's all in the PCM, it won't let you do anything that the tune won't allow.

If you want to row your own gears, you'll have to do a full manual swap. You can actually search, people do them on w-bodies with the Getrag 284.

If you aren't happy with how your car is shifting, a tune might be your best bet.
