Pre Wire question
I have looked but could not find if all the monte carlo's were pre wired for satelite. I want to hook up my sirius in the monte and tried an fm modulator and that blows. I don't want to change the deck out yet. If the monte is pre wired the hook up should be in the trunk from what I have read. I pulled the carpet back, but did not find anything. Just curious if they all came set up for satelite or not. If you have the factory xm hook up can you check to see if the xm box is in the trunk on the passenger side or let me know where it is.
Thanks ahead of time.

Pretty sure mine is prewired for XM, the manual says something along those lines. But I've absolutely no idea as to where any of the wiring is. If it weren't for the fact that winter is pretty much on top of me right now (supposed to snow this weekend with a high of 39*F) I'd go out and look. Then again I think my '06 has a different HU than your 6th gen.
You'd think that those who've replaced their decks would have pulled the XM wires out if the aftermarket deck wasn't wired for it, maybe they'll chime in.

The XM receiver is on the right side wheelwell in the trunk. The XM antenna is mounted on the roof, as in a HOLE in the roof. The XM antenna is compattible with other XM receivers, but the connectors are different, so there is issues there, but it will work. Mine does.
If I remember, but youll have to do some more searching, that there is an adapter to use Sirius radio with XM compatible factory decks, and some searching in this forum SHOULD get you there. Problem I see is you can't use the Sirius receiver unless you use a Sirius antenna (I have both), and I really don't think you can get your factory deck to display what Sirius is playing.
The should be an auxillary jack on the factory deck, and any Sirius receiver SHOULD be able to plug directly into this port, with the right adapter. This is a behind the dash connector.
Doing a lot of guessing from memory here. Might be full of S, but then again.....
Doing a quick search for Sirius gets you this, and hopefully you can find out more here:

From The GM Web Site:
"In the LS a six speaker stereo system powered by a AM/FM compact disc player with an auxiliary input jack. The LT offers the same system but with an added option of XM radio. The LTZ offers the second in the list of new Monte Carlo stereos with a AM/FM compact disc/MP3 compatible head unit working through an eight speaker system, and this system is also available with XM radio. The LTZ also offers a six-disc in dash compact disc changer. The SS comes with the Premium eight speaker system powered by a AM/FM compact disc player with MP3 compatibility, with a standard in dash six-disc compact disc changer, and XM radio."

I pulled my deck the other day to install my Sirius Sportster with a wired fm modulator. Sounded like crap no matter what I did. Unplugged the fm modulator and it was a little worse, but not much. I have always used after market decks with aux inputs, but for now I am happy with the stock set up. I have other cars to put big stereos in. I found online the Sirius car receiver and adapters to work with the Monte stereo. I was hoping that my car was pre wired for xm since you can just plug the Sirius into it. They also have an adapter for the stock xm antenna to make it work, but I have a Sirius antenna installed already. I can make it work no problem just was hoping it was prewired so it would be a little cleaner. Thanks for the suggestions so far. Wayne thanks for the conformation on the location that I had found researching online. I have not found a pre wired plug for the xm yet, but I will dig some more.
Here is the Sirius adapter for our cars if anyone is interested. Just added xm stations to my Sirius since they have/are combining services. Picked up college sports and the nba. Got to love satellite radio.
