I think the trick was taking a long hard look at the back of the radio and memorizing how everything is supposed to fit together before I attempted unplugging the factory harness and reconnecting everything. My LED head lamp came in quite handy for this because I could use one hand to come forward from the center console and reach the other one up from behind.

Still a better alternative than ripping off the entire dash. Though I did have to remove the plate from the ignition switch to get the dash to come out far enough to reach everything. To get all the cables to fit I had to kind of tuck the factory harness off to the passenger side right next to the glove box. Otherwise you will end up with tons of cables hanging down near the back of the center console.

 

So I can't just use a harness with the 2 RCA plugs into the back of the factory unit as I only listen to the Ipod on long trips? I read about the interface part and if thats the only way I would use it because now I have a fm transmitter and it has static when in town (Orlando station on 2 choices) Thanks as I am new here.

If your car has XM buy this product and use it. No splicing wires or running wires from your radio - plugs directly into your XM box located on the passenger side wheel well under the carpet - opposite of the XM box in the trunk.

it's not all that hard, you just have to fight it a bit, to get the stock deck back in can be a dick but with a decent understanding of whats going on back there you can pull it off with relative eas.

 

I had installed the same unit in my Hummer H3 and just loved it. Hopefully you got the later firmware that displays the song/artist names on the display instead of just numbers. If I recall, you have to press "display" or "info" to see this data.

 

You press and hold the display button to change to the song title. Unfortunately it doesn't scroll the information.

 

I know this is a LONG dead thread, but I was hoping someone might know what part is being referenced here. The link is dead and no part number or name was ever referenced.

Asking because lifting up the carpet sounds MUCH easier than tearing apart the dash just to get an aux input.

It looks like Amy used the: usa spec pa11 gm about a year before this (2009) and had a hell of a time getting it hooked up correctly to the xm. It also looks like she hasn't been online in 2years, so if anyone else out there knows what this is, I'd love to know.

EDIT: after a few hours of research it looks like she's talking about the P.I.E. GM12-POD/S with the gm12-x1 harness/adapter for xm radios. Looks like $150 where they're still available
