Welcome to the site! What do you mean by "stock settings"? If you're referring to steering wheel controls, then make certain to get a recognized name that will have the GM adapter available.

are you doing it yourself or you taking it to a shop to be done. cause i install audio/video systems for vehicles and for the monte you have to have the special wiring harness that has the chime in it and that usually runs you about 85 to 100 depending on who you get it from. but other than that you should have no problem

if you do take out your stock radio i am pretty sure that you will lose some functions that can only be changed through your radio but i am not sure what the functions are

I put an extension harness on both my '01 & '04 factory radios, amd remote mounted them in the trunk, to access the monitors, security, & FOB settings. You can still reset the tire and oil life monitors per owners manual, but you can not access security, lights on delays, chirps, etc without the factory radio.
Steering wheel module and Onstar module were also necessary.
