THE BOX IS YOUR PROBLEM!!!

The ideal volume for a sealed box for that sub is 2 cubes, your box is only 1.3 cubes after displacement. You're choking your sub! Adding port or ports to that sub won't do anything for it but make it sound worse since a ported box for that sub should be 2.3 cubes.

So before you do anything, buy or build the right size box and then go from there. I highly suggest building your own. It's very easy and doesn't cost much. You can buy half a sheet of 3/4" MDF from Home depot, they can cut it to the sizes you need so all you gotta do is go home, mock it up, predrill your holes, glue and screw it together, cut the hole for the sub and you're good to go. A half sheet of that wood should run you about $15-$20.
well even having a small ports going to help it sound better because it has no room to push air as it is, but a new box would definately help and then tune the amp to what sounds best with the new box

if i were you i would get ported because it's going to sound a little better and more bass

what do you listen to more? if rock or similar sealed might be your best bet, but with rap/hip-hop and similar ported will be a little better, and if your listening to that i would assume your looking for more bass so ported would be your best bet.

It matters based on what you want out of your sub setup. Generally ported boxes are louder but peaky while sealed may not get as loud they aren't peaky and can result in a tighter, more accurate bass response....they also play a broader range of frequencies.

If sealed, 2 cubes.
If ported, 2.3 cubes

He has a 15" sub in a 1.3 cube box, do you have any idea how ridiculously small that is? Do I need to model up that box for you and show you a picture for you to see how wrong that box is for that sub? This is how people get turned off to a particular brand, slap a sub in a box it fits in but isn't appropriate for, sounds like garbage and then conclude the product sucks. The box will make or break the install....you can have the best sub/best amp on the market, but slap that sub in a box that's about half the size it should be and you'll be wondering how the hell your top of the line products could sound so horrible. He would have to add a 3" x 10" port to that box to get any decent tuning out of it, but then his box would be even smaller at 1.2 cubes due to port displacement. The only time it's recommended to go so far below specs like that is in spl applications, in which case you'd also tune way higher than advisable for a daily driver that plays music. And at 250 watts, i'm thinking spl isn't his goal.

OP, build yourself or buy a new box, 2 cubes sealed or 2.3 cubes ported. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PORT YOUR ALREADY WAY TOO SMALL SEALED BOX CAUSE I ASSURE YOU IT WILL NOT SOUND BETTER AT ALL, ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING A PORTED BOX SHOULD BE BIGGER THAN A SEALED BOX.

And ported boxes don't necessarily "sound better", they're louder no doubt, but it all depends on what you want. Louder and boomier, go ported. Tighter, more accurate, punchy, broader frequency response, go sealed.

I second 04MonteLS on basically every point. You can start by playing with the eq adjustments and crossover points until you find what you like best. This could take quite a bit of time to get just right, so don't give up after 5 minutes.

If you're still not happy, it's time to buy/build a better box. Don't port the one you have, that's kind of a rediculous idea. There is a lot more to porting a box than drilling a hole and putting a tube in there. There are a few math calculations involved to get it right. Check out WinISD if you're curious; it'll help you design a box that's right for you if you want to build your own.

like i said, it will give it more room to breathe, most likely not making it sound as distorted, and i didnt say it would necessarily sound "better" overall one way or the other, i meant more bass, but it can sound better for a certain type of music.

ehh i kinda have to disagree there, just from my experience, my ported box sounds better than a sealer box for rap and rock in my car

Ok so one more question. I have stringer pro 3 rca now I ran them on the driver side of the car and I ran the power/ground wires on the passenger side of the car. Now when I plug in my sub my mids and highs get a wineing sound coming from them and right now I’m using a ground loop isolator. But this is only a temporary fix anything I can do fix this problem?

is your power wire running next to your alternator???
what other wires[any power] running on the RCA side???

are all speakers{6.5 and 6x9] amped???
try to unplug them one by one and see if its just one.
might be a bad rca.

lower your gains, or set them properly.

and the number one reason for whine is .................................................. ..................

a bad ground. where is your ground screwed into, find the spot, sand off the paint and reinstall.

if none of that works[witch im sure it'll help, build an amp rack to get your amp off the trunk floor. vibrations and posible surface contact will cause excess noise.

GL hope it works for ya.
