ipod shuffle and car stereo help
I have a 2001 monte carlo ls, and a 1st gen ipod shuffle that i would like to connect to my radio to play music. I have the head unit with both the cd player and tape deck stereo in my car.
Has anyone done this exact set up, or does anyone know how this can be done?
appreciate any help.

RE: ipod shuffle and car stereo help
I think a cassette adapter would work for now. about $10 at wallymart. there are also harnesses that plug in the back of the radio and work off the cd changer control. I bought a p.i.e. brand from crutchfield for about $70 and the instructions were very detailed and it took about 20 minutes to get the radio out and back in. basically you will have an aux input. if you do the cass. adpt. eject it when not in use

never go FM transmitter, those are awful.
the cassette adaptor will work very well, and is very easy to use and no need to install anything.
though the best is getting the adaptor for the radio, as it will charge your ipod, the steering wheel controls will work, and it will shut off when the car shuts off.
but if you want simplistic and decent quality, the cassette deck is the best bet.

Ya you’re best bet is the cassette adaptor. The Intimidator model I am looking at has a tape deck too so I will probably go that route.

the cassette adapter is the best way to go. but i saw a bad mouth of the fm trnasmitters. i have one for my daily driver (the monte plugs right in) and it work mint never craps out or fuzzies. but i guess i spent 80 bucks on it. that might be why. you get what you pay for

Yeah i bought a cassette adapter from etoolscity.com and it wouldn't work in my tape deck. I've also heard that the cassette adapters don't last too long.
Jeff2425, how is your p.i.e. doing from crutchfield? IS it holding up well?

I had a tape adapter in my Stratus and it worked well. You could hear clicking from the tape deck, but turning up the volume controlled that. Try a different tape adapter before dropping a lot of cash, but the true AUX import is the best way such as what Jeff said.
The 06-07 has an AUX input built into the radio, but I have yet to try mine.

01blackmonte- so far so good on the p.i.e unit. I run my sirius sportster thru it and is about 1 year old now. I had been using a cass. adp. for the sirius but my tape deck quit working for the direction that i needed. tapes still work the other direction. the cass. adp. played louder than the p.i.e unit but had a very slight hiss. using the aux input adp. the sound is cd clear. the tape head problem was prob. my fault cause I never ejc. the cass. adp. so that's why I recomended the eject when not in use.
