Default Got my new Pioneer DEH-3400UB Installed

Hey everyone,

Well, after an afternoon and some calls to Crutchfield, I got my new Pioneer DEH-3400 head unit installed. It definitely sounds much nicer then the stock system. Plus it has a neat feature that will take the Rear speakers and only put bass through them so they act as subs which works a whole lot better because they are bigger than the fronts. I plan on installing an actual sub and better speakers this summer, but for now this is great

Here's some pics, sorry I didn't get a good daylight shot.

Package!

Starting to wire up the GM integration unit

Got all the wires capped

Time to get that dash kit in

Done! (For some reason the cover piece that fits around the unit was not fitting in right, took a long time to get it in there alright.)

Dark by now, testing her our.

Tried to get some more light but didn't work too well.

Looks nice!

What do you do about the functions the stock radio performed like programing the key fob and such?

Well for the functions the stock radio did such as door chimes, blinker clicks, On-Star etc., they are all taken care of with the GM Integration Adapter by Axxess, here's a link-
GM Factory Integration Adapter General Motors OnStar® data bus interfaceRetains OnStar and factory door chime with aftermarket radio in select GM vehicles at Crutchfield.com

As for the key fob, not sure what you're referring to because in the 6th gen Monte's you program them with the 'Driver Information Center' controls.

Actually, come to think of it, there was a taped off wire that said 'System Remote Control' that I assumed was for the steering wheel control adapter. Is the remote control fed through the radio?

Thanks for the link. Good to know if I ever want to replace the radio on my 2001...

I'm not sure about the remotes on a 2006. On my 01 and 02 it is done via the radio.

No problem, and yeah that could be a problem, might have to get an aftermarket remote or keep the stock radio in the trunk or something, not sure though

i have the exact same pioneer head unit in my 2000 ss . like you said. way better than the factory unit . love the bass action from the rear factory speakers now .and it
works great with the factory amp which is rated at 200 watts . had to get a "chime"
harness for power . and the face plate kit gave me a little trouble . just discovered
the front speakers are blown" not surprised "since the car is 12 years old. will upgrade to a pair of alpine component speakers in front doors.

Looks good.

That's another big reason that the 06/07 years are considered 7th gens around her and should have been called 7th gens by GM. DIC, technically different chassis and a lot of other body and interior parts.

Hope to see some new pics!

Do you still have steering wheel controls? I think that's another dongle...
